mayflower emerges

The little forced mayflower came to flower, and the scent is sublime. This is a sure sign of our early spring. The weather is turning cooler now, so farmers are worried that frost will bite the new growth. I live in a fruit growing region, so this is a real concern.

spring house

I passed this house on a walk. Click the picture to see the Easter decorations. I was taking a break and out enjoying the unseasonable warm and sunny weather. Spring is surely something to celebrate.

dandelion

The first dandelion and the spring peepers are singing after dark, so spring is definitely here. Besides the other day I passed a dead skunk on the road, and that is a sure sign

funky flowers

I just love this Witch Hazel that flowers in the early spring. We used to buy what was probably a tincture in a bottle to swab on mosquito and black fly bites. It worked. And then there was Witch Hazel in the Little Lulu comics. Now that dates me.

planting time

I am going home to Nova Scotia tomorrow to plant my seeds and to begin to divide and lift the daylilies. So I shall be offline for a couple of days. The weather forecast is not good, but it is what I have and I need to be grubbing in the dirt again.

forsythia

sightings

Today the little blue flowers by the front door came out. The geese flew over. Ducks and loons are swimming where the ice has receded from the shore. A Morning Cloak butterfly is feeding on the maple sap, and it went to 20 degrees. (It was 3 this morning.)
Last week we were shovelling snow. This afternoon a neighbour was out sunning herself in her bathing suit.

wet

It is a wet cold day, so I posted a picture of the Timmins church that I took last week when there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Just south of here it is sunny and warm, but we are on the other side of the line.

double digit day

The temperature went into the double digits (Celsius) this afternoon. There is a crab apple tree in the yard. I embraced its warmth and took this picture.

at last

Close to a south wall a brave early crocus has made its appearance. My favourite flower is always the first one that I see in the spring.
